Turning Red
03:41
|
|||
Imagine this is a TV show
Where you decide who stays, who goes,
And you can change the make-up of your town
What runs though your mind:
How to leave the rest behind,
Or throw the book at those who let you down?
Wake up from your dream
Your power-trip's not all it seems
Close your eyes or they'll be turning red
No-one's heard a single word you've said
I want to tell you all I know
It won't take long so I'll go slow
I want to be the one who shaped your mind
You're so lucky to have me
Mine was never there for me to see
I guess it's in my nature to be kind
Opinions I'll provide
So you don't have to decide
Close your eyes or they'll be turning red
No-one's heard a single word I've said
But I don't like the look that's in your eyes, boy
No I don't like the look that's in your eyes
I want to open a restaurant
I can't cook but I'll make you what you want
Recipes I've cut from magazines
You swallow all my lies
I don't even have to try
Close your eyes or they'll be turning red
Close your mind to everything I've said

Andrea
03:56
|
|||
It was a winter morning, the first time we saw Andrea
She'd come from Buenos Aires with her father for his job
She just turned thirteen, old enough to know what it all means.
She stayed against her wishes, til independence finally came along
She swore in every language that her tongue would wind its way around
And her message was so clear: love me now for I will disappear.
How we miss her.

Half A Lifetime Ago
03:42
|
|||
I've got nothing to say to you
Haven't seen you since we were in school
That was over half a lifetime ago
What makes you think you'd know me now?
Have you followed my story somehow?
You were written out half a lifetime ago
So don't ask me how I've been
Don't even talk to me
And please don't let her catch my eye
I want just to show her how
That I wouldn't know her now
If she was just passing by
I've got nothing to say to you.

Amberlina
03:58
|
|||
More life comes from the trees
Than flowers, fruit and leaves.
For when the bark it breaks
The tree a resin makes.
What you need to fossilise
Is a stable compromise
Over centuries
Ooze over all that you embrace
You protect all you encase
Amberlina
As a healer you are scent
Safe and sound in your intent
Amberlina
Carried on a springtime wave
You were sinking, you were saved
Throw yourself onto the shore
Like a thousand times before
You may decorate my home
Shape the glass get smoked and blown
Or I may drink you down
Ooze over all that you embrace
You protect all you encase
Amberlina
As a healer you are scent
Safe and sound in your intent

Mouth
02:56
|
|||
The long-awaited bypass is covered in snow
It’s 4am, and I feel like I am in Fargo.
The sky’s the colour of the man who took your smile away;
You’d have lost it anyway; there’s no safe in keeping.
There’s no stars worth watching, these are just repeats.
Now you’ve fixed the last thing to keep you off the streets
And the message is so clear: now is not the time to say what’s on your mind
Now it’s your big chance to keep your big mouth shut.
Satellites are falling to the ground,
Tidal waves so high, yet you don’t make a sound
It’s the beginning of the end, and now it’s surely time
To step out from the line
In the next life will you keep you big mouth shut?

One Or The Other
04:31
|
|||
All that I’ve witnessed
And all that I’ve seen
We can’t be the same
But we all have a dream
It’s shame, but we’ve got to be one or the other,
It seems.

Green Light
03:52
|
|||
Early morning signs, coils start to unwind
Hear the creak of bones, see how they’ve grown
In the air, a chill warns of winter still
But, as dawn follows night, you’ve got the green light
All you are has roots from what you were,
Break loose to become what you choose
Feel the warming breeze thaw the deepest freeze
Nervous eyes demand you squint through your hands

Florins & Dimes
03:23
|
|||
Julie says she’s done down at the factory
Took the long way home, by the old school.
How good did it feel to emphasise ownership
of her own time?
This is no paradise, mud bricks and field mice,
Checking your change to find florins and dimes.
Now she’s free to fly just like the factory hens
You can see the world from your own cage
A girl can feel trapped for as long as it takes her to admit.
But this is no holiday, this time is here to stay
Fighting within the home, it dares her away
“Give me a dream” she said
“I can’t stay here til I’m dead.
“I listen to my head and my heart.
“Give me a different view, cos I’m just not happy with you”
And into the distant blue, she flew.

Error
03:12
|
|||
I’ve had enough of broken thoughts
Your mind is wasted on them
I’ve seen the storms it’s caused
And I’ve shaken
Next door is full of life and joy
To me, it’s hell.
I’ve heard it all before, no escaping.
You dance, I fall
We gave our all.
And it’s clear from the floor,
When I get up
That I’ve been here before,
And I have seen the error of my ways.
Less is more, less is more.
